  • Keith Richards on the move!!!

Keith Richards was honored Tuesday with the Mailer Prize for Distinguished Biography for his book Life. Former President Bill Clinton introduced the Rolling Stones guitarist and a story about his late mother-in-law, Dorothy Rodham, was a major fan of the Stones. In related news, Richards tells Rolling Stone that he will jam together with Ron Wood and Charlie Watts in a London studio later this month. "We're just going to play a little together, because we haven't played for three or four years," Richards says. "You don't necessarily want to rehearse or write anything – you just want to touch bases. That's a good start: me, Charlie and Ronnie. Mick's welcome, and I'm sure he'll turn up, but right now we just want to get our chops down."

  • Roger Daltrey and Robert Plant held a press conference in Los Angeles to announce the launch of the UCLA Daltrey/Townshend Teen & Young Adult Cancer Program

Roger Daltrey and Robert Plant held a press conference in Los Angeles to announce the launch of the UCLA Daltrey/Townshend Teen & Young Adult Cancer Program. The program hopes to change a medical culture that categorizes patients as either adults or children, with few special considerations for teens. The announcement follows more than a decade of support by The Who and other musicians for England's Teenage Cancer Trust, which has established 19 cancer units for teenagers across the U.K. The U.S. version will be housed at UCLA Medical Center and will treat teens separately from young children and adults to focus on special concerns for teens who have cancer. Pete Townshend was not at the press conference because of an expired visa that kept him in England, but he sent a videotaped statement saying: "Let's hope in the USA it can catch fire the way it did here, because it does save lives."

  • Doors at it again...minus Jim

Surviving Doors members Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore have recorded a new song with DJ/producer Skrillex as part of a new documentary film, RE:GENERATION, that depicts five popular producers working with artists from five separate genres. The project, co-produced by the Grammys and directed by Amir Bar Lev, also brought in DJ Premier to produce a classical track with Nas and the Berklee School of Music Orchestra; Pretty Lights, who did a country song with Leann Rimes and Ralph Stanley; the Crystal Method, who recorded an R&B tune with Martha Reeves; and Mark Ronson, who teamed with Erykah Badu, members of the Dap Kings and Trombone Shorty for a Jazz cut. The film should premiere early in 2012 and will be part of Grammy Week next year. "I like to say this is the first new Doors track of the 21st century," Manzarek told Rolling Stone. As for working with Skrillex, he said they had an immediate connection. "He plays his beat, all he had to do was play the one thing. I listened to it and I said, 'Holy shit, that’s strong,'" Manzarek added. "Basically, it’s a variation on 'Milestones,' by Miles Davis, and if I do say so myself, sounds f***ing great, hot as hell."
