LOL! A great acronym that saves a lot of space in e-mails and text messages. Of course it means "laughing out loud" or "laugh out loud". I suppose it came about because "hahahahahahahahaha" was waaaay too many letters.
The first time I saw "lol" was in an e-mail from my neice about 8 years ago. It was your basic: "how are you Uncle Phil, I am fine" kind of e-mail and it was peppered with the occasional "lol". At the time I assumed "lol" meant "lot's of love". Of course as time went by, I came to know "lol" for what it really meant. But it got me thinking: was that a popular misconception? that "lol" meant "lot's of love"? I googled it and lookie what I found:
