The latest criminal to screw-up story comes from Houston. Three men recently broke into a house and encountered a young man who lives there. They threw him into what they thought was a closet in the home. It was a gun safe. The young man grabbed a gun and crept down the basement stairs to see if he could see the robbers. One of the robbers fired a gun at him and he fired back, hitting one of the burglars in the neck and leg. The three robbers ran.. the wounded one collapsed, but got a free ride to the hospital from the police. He'll get a free ride to jail when he gets out.
On January 10, 1994 I had a unique and wonderful opportunity. Dr. Joyce Brothers was speaking at the Women's Fair at Century II. Her speech was great and then thanks to the kindness of my dear friend, Debbie Trimmell-Martin, I was able to visit with Dr. Brothers at a backstage event with no other media present. Debbie is a therapist and had special access. In the room were fewer than 10 people, including me and Dr. Brothers. She spoke with us not like a lecturer, but like we were all old friends chatting. She was so unpretentious and approachable. She shared with us that day several things I will never forget:
So Barbara Walters is retiring this year after starting her career in 1961! I appreciate all she has achieved...but other than The View, I thought she was already gone...retired that is. Sometimes, too, when celebrity deaths are announced...I thought they were already dead! Am I the only one this happens too?
Good news from Cleveland where three women, believed dead, had actually been held by a kidnapper(s) and were freed yesterday. Imagine what they went through. Police believe they may have been tied up most of the past decade. How was yesterday different? What happened that allowed one woman to break free? The full story will be heartbreaking, but still interesting. Was "Stockholm Syndrome" part of the senario, where captives start to like their captors, mostly because they haven't been killed? Do any of us really know what we would do in such circumstances?
