The JOHN LENNON documentary LennoNYC, which focuses on Lennon's life in New York City after THE BEATLES, premieres tonight at 8:00 on PBS. The film features never before seen footage of Lennon and his wife YOKO ONO, as well as Lennon's time in recording studios working on music, and the couple strolling through New York. It also features footage of Lennon taking care of his son, SEAN.
Be sure and watch KSN, Channel 3 tonight to see a local family receive a car through the Cars4Christmas program with help from 1045, The Fox. We brought Vicki and Russ and two of their children to the studio on the pretext of just interviewing them as part of the selection process. In fact, the Cars4Christmas committee had already decided to award them a car and we got to tell them this morning and watch as they drove away in their "new" car! Lots of happy tears in the studio! Look for the video on this site soon!
I ventured out for a Black Friday shopping excursion this morning. I really had nothing in particular to get, just wanted to have the experience. There were literally hundreds of people in line outside the big box electronic stores, I noticed this as I travelled from Kohl's to Towne East. At Kohl's there were hundreds of people in line to pay. Everything was very orderly and no one seemed to mind the wait. In Towne East it was also quite busy. I was impressed with the fact that everyone seemed to be kind and courteous. Christmas season seems to be off to a good start. If you missed out check out Buylocal.com through the Fox website, 1045thefox.com. There, you'll always find a bargain!
Okay, one more time...I have never smoke pot. Maybe I should have, but for numerous reasons I never did. Well, We received a rather unusual phone call at our house on Saturday. A police officer from a smaller town in the Wichita area informed me that a check I had written 19 months ago , on which I left the payee designation blank, had been turned in by an honest citizen (thank you unknown, honest citizen) and he wanted to know the circumstances surrounding the check. It took me a minute to recall what had happened. There was a name on the memo that was nearly illegible. Turns out it was a check I had written to help out a listener who had health problems, was unemployed and needed a new couch. I did not name a payee because I was not sure if the man in need had a guardian or conservator. The very nice officer wanted to know my driver's license number...I was having trouble reading it, due to the fact I could not locate a simple pair of reading glasses anywhere in the house (sigh). I told him he was welcome to run a background check using my name and date of birth (like he needed my permission). He joked, "you know what they say about DJs". I assured him I had never even smoked pot....I think he did believe me. He was very nice and I am happy the citizen who found the check turned it in. So, on last time...I am the wierdo who never smoked pot in the 70s! Anyone else like me?

The best Christmas gift is the love we give and receive from friends and family. I want to express my thanks to all the listeners of 1045, the Fox for their continued support of the Jan and Phil show and the station in general.
Wednesday, December 8th marks the 30th anniversary of the day JOHN LENNON died. The former BEATLE was shot and killed by MARK DAVID CHAPMAN outside the Dakota apartment building in New York City, where Lennon and wife YOKO ONO lived. Lennon was rushed to Roosevelt Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival. Chapman was taken into custody and ultimately sentenced to life in prison for the crime. Earlier this year, he was denied parole for the sixth time.
So here I am at my house looking around at the lack of Christmas decorations. Years ago we really used to do it up. We have a silver Christmas Tree that's packed up in a box in our garage. We used to put it up in front of our big picture window and put on all the ornaments and set up two color wheels on both sides of the tree so it was awash in festive color. But that was back in the day when we only had 2 dogs and they stayed mosty outside. Well...years have passed and we have collected multiple dogs. Our inside dogs quickly decided that they had their own ideas on how the Christmas decorations should be distributed...all over the floor. The ornaments became dog toys. We finally decided that the tree must come down and the dogs ruled the house. I must say that even though we don't put up that tree, it still seems like Christmas around here...our puppies remind us of that. I don't know what I would do without multiple dogs in my life...everyday is like Christmas!!!
What would Phil and I do without our listeners? Big thank you to Mary O. who has supplied me with the ultimate Christmas gift...the loan of a sweater that can WIN the ugly sweater contest at our station Christmas luncheon. I can't remember why we once thought festive Christmas sweaters with everything from Scottie dogs to giant bells were stylish, but apparently many did. The sweater on loan to me appears to include reindeer poop, though I don't think that was the designers intent.
This was recorded on 11 September for Crosby's 1977 television special, Bing Crosby's Merrie Olde Christmas. David Bowie and Bing Crosby...a true Christmas Classic and one of Jan's favorite Christmas Songs. ~ Phil ~
Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas. Phil and I were talking about our own Christmases past. I used to lie in bed and marvel at the christmas lights my dad had hung across the front of the house. I could see them glowing through the curtains. They were comforting and exciting. The best Christmas gift I ever received was a beautiful doll about 3 feet tall. I wasn't much taller than that at the time. She was standing, unwrapped, in a clear box beneath the tree on Christmas morning. She wore a diamond tiara before most dolls did (what a trend setter) and was dressed in a long purple gown that stood out like a hoop skirt. She had red-brown hair in a fabulous up do! I was in awe at the sight of her. Phil's family always left the "big" present unwrapped under the tree, but that is the only time I can remember an unwrapped present at our house. My happiest Christmas was when my mom got better after cancer treatment and was able to get out of bed and join us on Christmas morning. It's really people who make the holiday wonderful. Love to all!
