What exactly is Leap Year?

  • Print

It seems like every four years I have to refresh my memory on why exactly is there a February 29th?  It has to do with with our calender of 365 days a year.  Actually there is 365 days and 1/4 of another day in the calender year.  Over time that 1/4 day adds up and then the seasons will be all out of whack in the calender and we would have summer during the winter months and vise versa.  So thats why an extra day is added every four years to help keep the calender months in alignment.

Do you know anyone born on Feb 29th?  I don't.  I wonder what day I would celebrate my birthday if that were the case.  Feb. 28th or March 1st?  And then realistically, you would be 1/4 the age that you actually are....hmmm. weird!  haha.
