  • I finally got one!!!

I went to the Post Office yesterday and finally got one. A passport! I had one when I was a teenager but obviously it expired and I don't even know where it is. I am excited. I am going on a cruise in the late summer and visiting ports in Spain, France, and Italy. It's a belated birthday present that I am finally going to take. This will be my 4th cruise, but first to a non tropical one. I have been to Germany and Austria, like I mentioned when I was a teenager, but have never visited the places I will be in August. Have you? Any advice, please hit me up and tell me things I should do. johnny@1045thefox.com

  • Is it golf weather yet???

Today's high is expected to be 70. It's FEBRUARY! Now, all season long I have been told this is the mildest winter that Wichita has had in many years. I feel fortunate since I hate cold weather. I grew up in Houston, TX and was used to playing golf all year round. I played a round this weekend and froze my ass off. I look forward to the time when I will be able to play a round of golf every weekend. Bring on the warm weather!!! :)

  • Now that was a hail storm!!!

I have never experienced a hail storm on the magnitude that we had here yesterday in Wichita. I had seen hail bigger, but not at the intensity and strength of the hailstorm we got. Plus, I recently bought a brand new car and was freaking out since there could have been damage to the body of the car with dents. Fortunately, no damage but WOW that was crazy experiencing that. Crazy Kansas weather I guess! haha!

  • Wrestlemania is NEXT!

Yes, I admit it, I am a pro wrestling fan. I have been a wrestling fan since I was a kid, and still enjoy watching the 'male soap opera' known as pro wrestling. I am a big WWE fan and look forward to each years BIG pay per view knows as Wrestlemania. The card so far is good and there still is a few more matches yet to be determined. Yes, I know wrestling is scripted. So what! These guys are still athletes who get hurt. Over the years because of my job, I have gotten to meet many of them and have gotten to know them on a personal level. I respect them and what they do. Bring on WRESTLEMANIA!!!

  • The Peyton Manning rumors continue....

I read yesterday that Peyton Manning would definately be interested in playing for my hometown team the Houston Texans. That certainly brought a smile to my face. Obviously, right now, he is a member of the Indianapolis Colts. It is likely, he will not be optioned because of the $28 million dollars that they would have to pay him. He is also not 100% yet to return to playing. Will he ever play again. All of those things still have to be determined, but just the small chance of Peyton playing for the Houston Texans would be awesome. We shall see!!!

  • Why was Valentine's Day created????

First off, yes, at the present time, I am single. This is and has nothing to do with being bitter.

  • The Grammy's

I was actually impressed by this years awards show. The opening with The Boss Bruce Springsteen was awesome, however it was strange with Clarence not being there with his saxaphone. Not a big surprise from who won. Certainly, there was a touching tribute to Whitney Houston. Foo Fighters rocked it. And the performances from Sir Paul McCartney and Glenn Campbell and the guitar segment with many great guitar players were highlights. All in all, a great show celebrating music.

  • The Boring time for me as a sports fan has arrived!

I am a sports fan. I am mostly a college and pro football and a pro baseball fan. I do like college basketball but mosty during the month of March for the tournament. So, this is now the time where I am bored. The baseball season also doesnt start til late March. Its not really exciting per say to watch golf on TV. So what am I to do. Everybody says get outdoors. Well this is Kansas, and its now in the cold winter time, so that ain't happening. Bad for me and my dog SJ since that rules out going to the dog park. UGH! I need options! Hit me up with ideas at johnny@1045thefox.com

  • Snow has arrived! haha

So being a warm weather person, why am I happy to see snow ? I'll tell you why. Because I dont really consider today's snow actually snowfall. I guess I am weird in that I only consider it snowing if it accumulates on the ground to cause the roads and everything else to turn white. Today, it may snow 1 to 2 inches, but it's all melting when hitting my car or the ground. This ain't so bad!!! haha! Now watch with my luck, its going to snow bigtime soon and I will regret it!

  • Football over.... on to baseball.

What a great Super Bowl. Going into the game, I was on the fence for who I wanted to win. I am a fan of both the Giants and the Patriots. Congrats to Eli and the NY Giants for winning. Ok, NOW on to baseball. MLB starts in April. I am a baseball fan and can't wait for the season to start. I play fantasy baseball as well. GO ASTROS!!! haha! wishful thinking, but I can dream, right?

  • My dog with rain!!

For some reason, my dog SJ is not a good walker when it rains. This morning, it's pouring down raining outside. I put his leash on, take him outside and all he wants to do is sniff. I didn't have an umbrella, there were puddles everywhere in the grass so I couldnt walk him all over. We were litereally outside for 10 minutes and he wouldn't pee. I got frustrated and being already wet, I just took him back inside. I am going to regret that when I go home for lunch to walk him and he probably will have done his business in his cage since he didnt do anything this morning.. So frustrrating, but I love that dog... haha

  • Really? 6 more weeks? ugh!

So Punxsutawney Phil predicts 6 more weeks of WINTER!!!! WHAT!! Nooooooooooooo! haha I guess I have been lucky since moving here to Wichita five months ago. I heard from a bunch of you guys that winters here can be bitter cold and brutal. So the fact that its been a mild winter and has been in the 50's and 60's many times, I consider myself fortunate. I should be knocking on wood as I type this, but I think I can handle 6 more weeks of winter... Thanks Punxsutawney Phil!

  • Help me find some Mom and Pops in Wichita?????

One of the things I enjoy when I move to a new area, is getting out and finding the mom and pop restuarants. That to me is a great way to learn about the area, the people, the culture and more. The last month or so, I have really stepped up and started to go out for dinner to these places. I love all kinds of food, so the restuarant won't matter. If you have a suggestion on a place for me to go check out, please let me know. I would appreciate it. Hit me up and tell me about the place and where it is so I can go eat dinner there. johnny@1045thefox.com

  • I finally got the email!

Do you participate in fantasy sports with friends, family or co workers? For the last 10 years, I have been a part of a fantasy baseball league. Yesterday, I got the email from our league commissioner about when the draft will be and some discussion points on how to conduct this years league with rule changes and other topics. Being a part of fantasy baseball for me is two fold. One, it keeps me in tune with baseball since I am a big fan of the sport and since I dont live in a city with a pro team, this is my way of keeping in touch. And secondly, its the comradre with the others in the league who I have known for many years. Now the kicker, I have never finished the season at .500. I admit it, my teams always suck. I pay an entrance fee to be in the league every year, but have come to expect that I just pay the fee and move on. I will never place in the top 3 to get any prize money back... OH WELL... But I enjoy being in the league. I will also never give up my spot in this league since there is a waiting list to join,

  • I am torn!!

It's BIG GAME week, and I am torn on who I want to win. I like both teams equally. Big Tom Brady fan and a big Eli Manning fan. I have been a NY Giants fan more of my life than the Patriots. I was born in New Jersey and visited often and went to many games at Meadowlands Stadium to see the Giants. I have family who live in Boston and think the Patriots certainly have a nice dynasty. So again, I am torn on who I want to win. I truly believe it will be a tough fought game and not a blowout. I look forward to the fun commercials as well. Here's to a great game and hope to see many of you at Heroes Old Town this Sunday with the Fox broadcasting live.

  • R.I.P.

Legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paternon died over the weekend. He was 85. All over my facebook page, I have seen the people that wanted to honor him and those that didn't care that he had passed since he was was intertwined in the Penn State child scandal. I do think he made a huge unforgivable mistake in not reporting the incident in a timely manner and that it could have prevented future incidents, but I wrestle with the fact that we also shouldn't ignore his amazing contributions on the football field. It will be interesting to see how the school, Penn State University, handles his passing and their handling of his legacy.

  • Where should I go on vacation?

With a new year, comes new 'vacation time' to take during the work year. It's been probably 5 years since I have had a true vacation. As you probably can tell by reading some of my blogs, that I am not a fan of cold weather. So that really narrows it down to a warm climate atmosphere. I have been on 3 cruises and love the experience. And with the unfortunate accident of the cruise ship in Europe, the price of taking a cruise is going down. That may be a option. I have also thought about all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. Being single with no kids, I will wait to go to the likes of a Disney World or something similiar to that when I do have a family. Going to Europe would be fun, but I am not sure I would enjoy that alone. Ok, it's settled, I will look at somewhere tropical and figure out if I will fly there or visit by a cruise ship. Thanks for your help! :)

  • The end is near! I am starting to believe it!

So, the last two nights in a row, the FX channel has had on the movie 2012 staring John Cusack, Danny Glover and others. The movie came out in 2009 and I remember going to the movie theater to watch it. The movie was about the earth changing and eventually there would be catastophic disaster with the loss of life, civilization and basically everything. It's got me thinking, ok, so now that it's 2012, what IS going to happen. With the Mayan calender stopping this year, how is life as we know it going to change. Will it be like the movie and the earth changing to cause all of the chaos, or will it be a meteor from outer space hitting earth or will the earth just explode like the scene from Star Wars. We have heard for years of the ending in 2012, but I want to know HOW? These are the things that are keeping me up at night!

  • It FINALLY happened!!

Tuesday, January 17th...I woke up to the coldest day so far for me living in Wichita.. Haha! It was 19 degrees with the wind chill making it feel much colder. I get it, I have been very fortunate that this is a very mild winter for Wichita, Kansas. I am a wuss when it comes to cold weather. I grew up in south Texas, so I basically get cold when it hits below 60 degrees. haha! I hope this is the only time I whine in my blog about the weather.. The summer and warmer weather can't come soon enough! :)

  • Where else can I take my dog???

So with the unseasonable weather we are having, it was another great weekend to take the dog outdoors and let him play. I decided after weeks of talking about going, that this past weekend I would take SJ to the dog park near the Starlite Drive In theaters on the south side. It's a bigger dog park area than the other place I have taken him and a alot more dogs and room to run and play. So, I have now taken SJ there, to the Hillcroft Kansas Humane Society's new dog park and also to the Sedgwick Co Park. The goal is to get him wet so I want a place where he can jump in or I can throw him into water. If you have a dog and you know of other places I can take SJ to, please let me know. email me at johnny@1045thefox.com
