  • Do you play Texas Hold Em Poker???

I do. And now hearing that the poker room at the Kansas Star is open, I may be in trouble. haha. Living pretty close to a casino is good and bad. Good in that its a short drive to go relax and play cards. Bad because it may become addicting and depending on if you win or lose, financially it could be bad. I consider myself to be a good, tight player that only plays hands that I think I can win. Hopefully this mentality puts me more in the win column and I can make a few extra bucks every so often. One of the things on my 'bucket list' is to enter the WSOP and try to get in the money... The buy in is $10,000 and the chances of getting in the money is so slim since over 2,000 people play in this tournament.. But I hope to enter the tournament one day and see what happens. Until then, I'll see you at the Kansas Star for some Texas Hold Em.

  • Happy 40th!!! Can't believe it's been 40 years....

One of my ALL time favorite movies, The Godfather, is celebrating its 40th year since it was released. It's been on TV all this week. If I am watching TV, no matter what I am watching, if I flip through the channels and I come across The Godfather, I always stop whatever I am doing and watch the movie. It was such a classic movie, with amazing dialogue.

  • What exactly is Leap Year?

It seems like every four years I have to refresh my memory on why exactly is there a February 29th? It has to do with with our calender of 365 days a year. Actually there is 365 days and 1/4 of another day in the calender year. Over time that 1/4 day adds up and then the seasons will be all out of whack in the calender and we would have summer during the winter months and vise versa. So thats why an extra day is added every four years to help keep the calender months in alignment.

  • Did you like The Oscars this year????

I watched it, well, because every year, it seems like you have to watch it just to be 'in the know' and see what everybody is saying or doing. I havent watched the movie 'The Artist' and probably never will. That kind of movie doesn't appeal to me. I found it funny that trending on Twitter was the comment 'who is Billy Crystal?'... That's an indication that they may need to skew a little younger next year. I was happy for Meryl Streep. I loved the outfits of J'Lo and Cameron Diaz. The Cirque du Soleil piece during the show was very cool. Seeing Stacy Keibler with George last night. I met Stacy many years ago when she worked for WCW. She was very kind and beautiful. All in all, this was not a truly memorable awards show this year, but none the less, congrats to all the winners.

  • Finally, a good movie weekend!

Is it just me, or has there not been anything worthwhile to see at the movie theaters. It probably is just me, but finally, in about 2 months, there is a movie I want to see. The new Paul Rudd/Jennifer Aniston movie Wanderlust opens this weekend. Coming soon, is the movie 21 Jump Street. I was a fan of the tv version starring Johnny Depp, so I want to see this movie for nostalgia even though this won't even come close to living up to the concept. I have literally seen only two movies in the last 6 months at a theater. The Mission Impossible movie at the IMAX on 21st street and also the movie Moneyball. The Oscars are this weekend, so we shall see if Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill or the movie gets any awards.

  • I finally got one!!!

I went to the Post Office yesterday and finally got one. A passport! I had one when I was a teenager but obviously it expired and I don't even know where it is. I am excited. I am going on a cruise in the late summer and visiting ports in Spain, France, and Italy. It's a belated birthday present that I am finally going to take. This will be my 4th cruise, but first to a non tropical one. I have been to Germany and Austria, like I mentioned when I was a teenager, but have never visited the places I will be in August. Have you? Any advice, please hit me up and tell me things I should do.

  • Is it golf weather yet???

Today's high is expected to be 70. It's FEBRUARY! Now, all season long I have been told this is the mildest winter that Wichita has had in many years. I feel fortunate since I hate cold weather. I grew up in Houston, TX and was used to playing golf all year round. I played a round this weekend and froze my ass off. I look forward to the time when I will be able to play a round of golf every weekend. Bring on the warm weather!!! :)

  • Now that was a hail storm!!!

I have never experienced a hail storm on the magnitude that we had here yesterday in Wichita. I had seen hail bigger, but not at the intensity and strength of the hailstorm we got. Plus, I recently bought a brand new car and was freaking out since there could have been damage to the body of the car with dents. Fortunately, no damage but WOW that was crazy experiencing that. Crazy Kansas weather I guess! haha!

  • Wrestlemania is NEXT!

Yes, I admit it, I am a pro wrestling fan. I have been a wrestling fan since I was a kid, and still enjoy watching the 'male soap opera' known as pro wrestling. I am a big WWE fan and look forward to each years BIG pay per view knows as Wrestlemania. The card so far is good and there still is a few more matches yet to be determined. Yes, I know wrestling is scripted. So what! These guys are still athletes who get hurt. Over the years because of my job, I have gotten to meet many of them and have gotten to know them on a personal level. I respect them and what they do. Bring on WRESTLEMANIA!!!

  • The Peyton Manning rumors continue....

I read yesterday that Peyton Manning would definately be interested in playing for my hometown team the Houston Texans. That certainly brought a smile to my face. Obviously, right now, he is a member of the Indianapolis Colts. It is likely, he will not be optioned because of the $28 million dollars that they would have to pay him. He is also not 100% yet to return to playing. Will he ever play again. All of those things still have to be determined, but just the small chance of Peyton playing for the Houston Texans would be awesome. We shall see!!!

  • Why was Valentine's Day created????

First off, yes, at the present time, I am single. This is and has nothing to do with being bitter.

  • The Grammy's

I was actually impressed by this years awards show. The opening with The Boss Bruce Springsteen was awesome, however it was strange with Clarence not being there with his saxaphone. Not a big surprise from who won. Certainly, there was a touching tribute to Whitney Houston. Foo Fighters rocked it. And the performances from Sir Paul McCartney and Glenn Campbell and the guitar segment with many great guitar players were highlights. All in all, a great show celebrating music.

  • The Boring time for me as a sports fan has arrived!

I am a sports fan. I am mostly a college and pro football and a pro baseball fan. I do like college basketball but mosty during the month of March for the tournament. So, this is now the time where I am bored. The baseball season also doesnt start til late March. Its not really exciting per say to watch golf on TV. So what am I to do. Everybody says get outdoors. Well this is Kansas, and its now in the cold winter time, so that ain't happening. Bad for me and my dog SJ since that rules out going to the dog park. UGH! I need options! Hit me up with ideas at

  • Snow has arrived! haha

So being a warm weather person, why am I happy to see snow ? I'll tell you why. Because I dont really consider today's snow actually snowfall. I guess I am weird in that I only consider it snowing if it accumulates on the ground to cause the roads and everything else to turn white. Today, it may snow 1 to 2 inches, but it's all melting when hitting my car or the ground. This ain't so bad!!! haha! Now watch with my luck, its going to snow bigtime soon and I will regret it!

  • Football over.... on to baseball.

What a great Super Bowl. Going into the game, I was on the fence for who I wanted to win. I am a fan of both the Giants and the Patriots. Congrats to Eli and the NY Giants for winning. Ok, NOW on to baseball. MLB starts in April. I am a baseball fan and can't wait for the season to start. I play fantasy baseball as well. GO ASTROS!!! haha! wishful thinking, but I can dream, right?

  • My dog with rain!!

For some reason, my dog SJ is not a good walker when it rains. This morning, it's pouring down raining outside. I put his leash on, take him outside and all he wants to do is sniff. I didn't have an umbrella, there were puddles everywhere in the grass so I couldnt walk him all over. We were litereally outside for 10 minutes and he wouldn't pee. I got frustrated and being already wet, I just took him back inside. I am going to regret that when I go home for lunch to walk him and he probably will have done his business in his cage since he didnt do anything this morning.. So frustrrating, but I love that dog... haha

  • Really? 6 more weeks? ugh!

So Punxsutawney Phil predicts 6 more weeks of WINTER!!!! WHAT!! Nooooooooooooo! haha I guess I have been lucky since moving here to Wichita five months ago. I heard from a bunch of you guys that winters here can be bitter cold and brutal. So the fact that its been a mild winter and has been in the 50's and 60's many times, I consider myself fortunate. I should be knocking on wood as I type this, but I think I can handle 6 more weeks of winter... Thanks Punxsutawney Phil!

  • Help me find some Mom and Pops in Wichita?????

One of the things I enjoy when I move to a new area, is getting out and finding the mom and pop restuarants. That to me is a great way to learn about the area, the people, the culture and more. The last month or so, I have really stepped up and started to go out for dinner to these places. I love all kinds of food, so the restuarant won't matter. If you have a suggestion on a place for me to go check out, please let me know. I would appreciate it. Hit me up and tell me about the place and where it is so I can go eat dinner there.

  • I finally got the email!

Do you participate in fantasy sports with friends, family or co workers? For the last 10 years, I have been a part of a fantasy baseball league. Yesterday, I got the email from our league commissioner about when the draft will be and some discussion points on how to conduct this years league with rule changes and other topics. Being a part of fantasy baseball for me is two fold. One, it keeps me in tune with baseball since I am a big fan of the sport and since I dont live in a city with a pro team, this is my way of keeping in touch. And secondly, its the comradre with the others in the league who I have known for many years. Now the kicker, I have never finished the season at .500. I admit it, my teams always suck. I pay an entrance fee to be in the league every year, but have come to expect that I just pay the fee and move on. I will never place in the top 3 to get any prize money back... OH WELL... But I enjoy being in the league. I will also never give up my spot in this league since there is a waiting list to join,

  • I am torn!!

It's BIG GAME week, and I am torn on who I want to win. I like both teams equally. Big Tom Brady fan and a big Eli Manning fan. I have been a NY Giants fan more of my life than the Patriots. I was born in New Jersey and visited often and went to many games at Meadowlands Stadium to see the Giants. I have family who live in Boston and think the Patriots certainly have a nice dynasty. So again, I am torn on who I want to win. I truly believe it will be a tough fought game and not a blowout. I look forward to the fun commercials as well. Here's to a great game and hope to see many of you at Heroes Old Town this Sunday with the Fox broadcasting live.
