  • Alabama???? Really???

Alight, so I admit, I wasn't a fan of either LSU or Alabama for the national championship game. The title for this blog would have said LSU if they had won. haha. I am happy for Alabama for winning, but glad the season is over and I can look forward to next years growth of TEXAS and see how they will fair next year in the Big 12. lol

  • I live for the playoffs in the NFL!!

What an awesome first weekend of the playoffs. It certainly does help that the team that I am rooting for is in the playoffs for the first time and they WON!! Congrats to my Houston Texans. The craziest game was last nights Steelers/Broncos game. Let me also say that I have been a fan of Tim Tebow since his Florida days and was definately rooting for him to do well. I am also a Steelers fan, so last nights game was really fun to watch. I can't wait til next weeks games and the BIG GAME is only a month away!!!

  • I can relate to hearing about the closing of Boeing Wichita!

I grew up in Clear Lake City, TX, which is actually a portion of Houston. Clear Lake is the home of the Johnson Space Center of NASA. It's 'was' the training site of astronauts who traveled into space aboard one of the shuttles. To give a little background, for the first 5 years of the program, our family knew all of the astronauts that were involved. I went to school with thier kids. I personally knew four of the 7 astronauts that perished in the first shuttle disaster. I have pictures on my wall at my home of a friend of ours during one of his space walks holding onto a satellite fixing it.

  • So have you broken your resolution yet? I have!! ugh!

Every year, I always tell myself I am going to eat healthier. To give you a quick overview, I am single and I don't cook. What's that mean? It means, I eat out way to much, I go through drive thru's all the time at fast food joints, and I don't watch what I eat. Suffice it to say, it's only the third day of January, and I have gone through 4 drive thru's, bought Blue Bell ice cream and still eating bad. I hate new years resolutions that I can't keep. haha!

  • The only college bowl game I'm interested in is on TONIGHT!

Finally! TEXAS vs. Cal is on tonight. It's the Holiday Bowl from San Diego. Being a huge Texas Longhorn fan, I have been waiting patiently for 3 weeks now for this game. It's tonight on ESPN! I will be going to my favorite spot in Wichita that I found 4 months ago when I first moved here to watch the game! Hook Em Horns!!

  • 2012... Is it a resolution or a 'Bucket List'?????

With the start of the Mayan calender, and Dec. 21st being the last date mentioned on calender, is the start of the new year going to be about resolutions or a 'bucket list' for you. Typically every year, I always say I am going to do this, do that, and usually after a month or so, I end up going back to doing what I was doing before. As always, I want to eat healthier, lose a few lbs. and a slimmer waistline. I want to get in better shape whether its excerise at a gym or getting outside more. Fortunately, I don't have any vices that I need or want to quit. Now this brings me to the 2012 Mayan calender and should this year be a 'bucket list'. I still have many things that I want to do. Skydiving, bungee jumping, getting married, having children, traveling to places I havent been. So I guess I have a lot to do this year! :)

  • My day at KWCH Channel 12 on video... Check it out!

So I went to KWCH again the other day to help out with their Storm Team 12 Travel Hotline for viewers to call in and ask how the roads and weather will be like on their travels to their desired destination... I took along a video camera and here is some footage:

  • Starting to put together 'that list'... are you????

Nearing the end of a year, everyone, including me, starts to think about those resolutions that you want to make for the new year ahead. Whether it's quitting a habit, excersizing more, changing attitudes about something or whatever it may be, I have started to jot down some things for my 'list'. This is not a complete list, as it's merely something to think about for the next week before January 1st rolls around for me to have that final draft. At this stage of my life, I am usually better than 60% on starting and trying to keep those resolutions. Hopefully 2012 I will do better. haha!

  • Have you ever had a root canal????

So the other day, a tooth started hurting. And it got progressively worse throughout the day. I havent lived in Wichita long, so I hadn't yet visited a dentist. It got to the point yesterday where I just had to walk into a dentist and tell them my situation. I knew doing this right before the Christmas holiday wasnt ideal, but I had to take a chance. Luckily they had an opening for me to see what was up. It was determened that a root canal I had gotten done back in 2009 had been reaggravated. UGH! Anyway, that procedure is a lengthy one, and so the only time for them to fit me in is next week. So, for the next 10 days, I am on antibiotics to keep the swelling and pain to a minimum until they can fix it next week. Oh the joys of going to the dentist! :)

  • Christmas Shopping COMPLETED in 20 minutes...Here's how I did it!

How did I do it you ask? haha. Very simple! GIFT CARDS! Since I live far away from my family and very rarely visit them during this holiday, it's pretty much understood that I get gift cards. So, I went to 3 different stores all within walking distance from each other and bought six gift cards and well, there you go, I am finished. The best part, is the 'gift' is something they really want, instead of me picking something that they may end up returning for something else. I have never worried about shopping for occasions. I do the gift card thing on birthdays as well.

  • Did you go to your company Christmas Party???? Ours is TONIGHT!

So, it's the time of year where businesses do their company Christmas party. It's my first one with 104.5 The Fox. Meeting my coworkers spouses, girlfriend or boyfriends and being around your coworkers 'outside' of work to look back on the year with great accomplishments and being festive and then looking into the new year. We are also doing a 'present exchange' at the party with the limit of $10... haha, I procrastinated and am going to the store on the way to the party to get my gift that will be in the giving. I am curious to see which fellow employee drinks too much and over does it at the party. Hopefully nothing bad will happen and its a good evening.

  • My dog SJ is awesome!!!

My dog SJ just turned 1 years old a few weeks ago.. If you are a pet owner, you know how important a dog or cat can be. They truly are a 'member of the family'. SJ is my 2nd dog as an adult. I had two dogs when I was a young kid. But now that I am older, my dog is a huge part of me. Living in Wichita now for 4 months, I have found a couple of great places to take him. The Sedgewick County Park and also the new dog park at the Kansas Humane Society on Hillside. I take him there as often as I can. With it being cold lately, it sucks for me freezing just standing there, but SJ loves running around with the other dogs no matter how cold or wet it may be. Dogs are truly a man's best friend. Here is a recent pic of SJ...

  • The holiday season is tough on me....

I live away from my immediate family. So every year at this time, I get really homesick. I am not able to visit them during the holiday. I have two older brothers that are married with kids, so I miss out being an Uncle during this time. My extent of the Christmas season is calling them on the phone for a 10 minute chat and giving my nephews and nieces a gift card from a store for them to get something for themselves. Don't get me wrong, I do see them other times of the year, but I guess since this is a big 'family' time of the year, I miss out. Oh well. LOL HAPPY HOLIDAYS FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!!

  • I love sports and here is why???

The craziness of the offseason in most sports is a lot of fun to keep following the sport when they aren't in season. What I mean is, is with all the coach and player moves makes it very interesting.. Just in the last few days, in baseball, we heard about Albert Pujols leaving St. Louis for the Aneheim Angels for a whopping $250+ million dollars. To college football, Charlie Weis is named the head coach at Kansas and in basketball, Pau Gasol may be going to Houston. It's just fun to follow all of the action when the season of games isn't even happening yet.

  • I held out as long as I could!

For the first time, I turned my heater on in my house. I was holding out as long as I could. I am one of those who hates electric bills and I try not to use much to keep my costs down and one of those is to not use the heater. I would walk around the house at night and sleep in sweat pants and a sweat shirt and I have a down comforter. But the last few nights, I finally gave in and am now using my heater. I haven't experienced a Kansas winter yet so I can imagine the heater will be on and used a lot for the next 3 months or so. 2-3 less drive thru's a week and hopefully that can pay my electric bill. :)

  • I danced with Demi Moore...REALLY I did!!

I was going through some pictures on my facebook page yesterday and i came across my Demi Moore pic. I met her back in about 1987. I have relatives in show business. One of my show business cousins was getting married and Demi was the maid of honor. I actually got to hang with her a bunch that weekend. She took a liking to my brothers and I for being Texas boys. The rehearsal dinner was the initial meeting. We talked and laughed a bunch, danced a few times on the dance floor. Later after the dinner, at the hotel restuarant/bar, we hung out. I even walked her back to her hotel room that night. I didn't go in though..haha The wedding was great and I danced with her more and all in all it was a dream weekend for me being a shy teenager meeting a rising movie star. Well, 25 years later, and she is single and I happen to be a few years younger than her...you think I got a shot????

  • Bucket lists....

For some reason, lately, I have been thinking about all the things that I 'WANT' to do, but I haven't done yet. Is it a midlife crisis thing, I don't know. It's possible. I think it's more about the things I should probably do sooner than later since it would be easier to do when I am younger. Bungie jumping, sky diving, flying in a fighter jet as a passenger, scuba dive deep in the ocean, traveling to certain places in the world are a few of the things on my list that I have yet to do. Nothing too big or whatever... What's on your list?

  • Are they really necessary???

Hmm. let's see...WHY are many American's in financial trouble??? The creation of Valentine's Day, Mothers Day, Father's Day, Black Friday and now Cyber Monday... There are probably a few more that I can't think of right now..Let's spend money that we dont have on buying things on these so called holidays and rack up more debt to the debt we already have. Does this help the economy or make the poor poorer??? I can understand Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and certain days of rememberance that we spend money on, but the above mentioned days are just not necessary. Shouldnt we be spending our money more wisely on mortgages, car notes, college educations, putting food on the table instead of flatscreens, the latest in tech phones, computers, etc. Just a thought!

  • Millie, the dog from KWCH

So if you ever watch the news on KWCH, every so often you will notice a dog on the set. Her name is Millie. Recently, I had to be up at the KWCH studios and I had the opportunity to meet Millie. I always wondered how a dog could be on set without any distractions of barking, growling or anything else that could happen. Being a dog owner myself, I love interacting with dogs. Millie was great. She was approachable and even came to me when I would say her name. She was very laid back and a very likeable dog. Now every time I watch Channel 12 news, I will always have that bond with Millie.

  • Losing a Parent...

It was 8 years ago today that I lost my stepfather to lung cancer.. I miss him dearly. It happened so fast, with him being diagnosed and losing his battle only in a 9 week period. How I met my stepfather is a great story that i cherish to this day. See, my mom was a nurse at a hospital. One day when I was about 18, I was in a boating accident and was taken to the emergancy room of the hospital in which my mom worked. She happened to be there at the time, but after several times of paging her on the intercom system in the hospital, she never came down.. A few minutes later, a doctor showed up and said he was a friend of my mom's and heard her being paged, so he came down to see what was up. He ended up taking care of my injury. That doctor was married at the time. Not more than a year or so later, he was divorced and my mom and he being friends, took their friendship to the next level. He became my stepfather and was a great part of my adult life. I gained two great step sisters and am an Uncle to their children. I have a scar on my shoulder from that injury and consider that a wonderful reminder of him and his legacy.. Miss ya Bob.
