For some reason, lately, I have been thinking about all the things that I 'WANT' to do, but I haven't done yet. Is it a midlife crisis thing, I don't know. It's possible. I think it's more about the things I should probably do sooner than later since it would be easier to do when I am younger. Bungie jumping, sky diving, flying in a fighter jet as a passenger, scuba dive deep in the ocean, traveling to certain places in the world are a few of the things on my list that I have yet to do. Nothing too big or whatever... What's on your list?
Hmm. let's see...WHY are many American's in financial trouble??? The creation of Valentine's Day, Mothers Day, Father's Day, Black Friday and now Cyber Monday... There are probably a few more that I can't think of right now..Let's spend money that we dont have on buying things on these so called holidays and rack up more debt to the debt we already have. Does this help the economy or make the poor poorer??? I can understand Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and certain days of rememberance that we spend money on, but the above mentioned days are just not necessary. Shouldnt we be spending our money more wisely on mortgages, car notes, college educations, putting food on the table instead of flatscreens, the latest in tech phones, computers, etc. Just a thought!
So if you ever watch the news on KWCH, every so often you will notice a dog on the set. Her name is Millie. Recently, I had to be up at the KWCH studios and I had the opportunity to meet Millie. I always wondered how a dog could be on set without any distractions of barking, growling or anything else that could happen. Being a dog owner myself, I love interacting with dogs. Millie was great. She was approachable and even came to me when I would say her name. She was very laid back and a very likeable dog. Now every time I watch Channel 12 news, I will always have that bond with Millie.
It was 8 years ago today that I lost my stepfather to lung cancer.. I miss him dearly. It happened so fast, with him being diagnosed and losing his battle only in a 9 week period. How I met my stepfather is a great story that i cherish to this day. See, my mom was a nurse at a hospital. One day when I was about 18, I was in a boating accident and was taken to the emergancy room of the hospital in which my mom worked. She happened to be there at the time, but after several times of paging her on the intercom system in the hospital, she never came down.. A few minutes later, a doctor showed up and said he was a friend of my mom's and heard her being paged, so he came down to see what was up. He ended up taking care of my injury. That doctor was married at the time. Not more than a year or so later, he was divorced and my mom and he being friends, took their friendship to the next level. He became my stepfather and was a great part of my adult life. I gained two great step sisters and am an Uncle to their children. I have a scar on my shoulder from that injury and consider that a wonderful reminder of him and his legacy.. Miss ya Bob.
So everybody gets sad when something in their lives changes...I can name a half a dozen TV shows that ended after a long run and I was bummed. When MASH, Happy Days, ALF, The Cosby Show, Cheers, Friends, and there are several others.. Well, TODAY, was Regis Philbin's last day on the LIVE with Regis show. I was sad to see Andy Rooney step down but Regis stepping down is affecting me more. I watched the show sparingly over the years, mostly in college and during the times i wasnt at school or had a job that didnt start til later. I mostly became a fan of his through his numerous appearances on David Letterman's shows. The two of them had a funny chemistry and so that is how i mostly became a fan of Regis. Thank you for all the great laughs and memories. You will be missed!
Straight to the point, I am a huge Texas Longhorns fan. I follow their football team, their basketball team and do check in on their baseball program. My travels in my career have brought me from the Big 12 to the SEC and now back to the Big 12. I have known about Kansas athletics. Whether it was KU, Kansas State or Wichita State University. Now that I live here, I find myself getting into watching and supporting KU and Kansas State during the football season and the last few weeks have actually sat on my couch watching the televised KU basketball games. More and more I am getting into watching the sports segments on the local newscasts talking about the big three progams here in the state. Again, as I will always be a Longhorn fan, i can now officially say.... GO JAYHAWKS, GO WILDCATS, and GO SHOCKERS!!
Usually, as I am sure most of you are, we are not a fan of Mondays. Its hard to get back into the work or school mode after a weekend of staying out late and sleeping in and being lazy doing whatever it is that you enjoy doing when you arent at work or school.
Veteran's Day on 11.11.11 Isnt that strange. But the most important thing is we honor and give thanks to those who have served and are currently serving. These brave men and women gave and risked their lives to defend our country and freedom. To that I say, THANK YOU!...
So I moved here to Wichita in the latter part of August. It was around 100 degrees and I absolutely loved it. See, that was normal for me growing up in Houston, Texas. It was always hot and humid and I grew to enjoy it and it never bothered me. So now that I live in an area of the country where the temperature varies all the time, I get cold when it hits 60 degrees.
