Federal grant announced for Wichita transportation facility

Kansas congressman Ron Estes has announced that the city of Wichita will receive a $14 million federal grant to help with the development of a multimodal transportation facility in the Delano neighborhood.

The facility will include a parking garage with 600 spaces, a charge area for the city’s electric bus fleet, and a facility to house the city’s bike share program.  It is expected to handle transit services that will connect to the downtown area and other parts of the city, and it will help with economic development for the Delano area and the west bank of the Arkansas River.

The facility is expected to serve a growing area anchored by the new baseball stadium that is under construction for the Wichita Wind Surge Triple-A team.
