The federal government has notified the state of Kansas that the unemployment insurance Extended Benefits program will come to an end in December.
The last payable week on the EB program will be the week ending December 12th. The Kansas Department of Labor will not be allowed to make any additional payments with unused funds. The program extended unemployment benefits by 13 weeks for workers who had exhausted regular unemployment benefits.
Kansans who are no longer eligible for the EB program may be eligible for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance if they meet the requirements.
State officials will be contacting those affected by the end of the EB program. Since March 15th, the state has paid over three million claims totaling over $2.3 billion, including the regular unemployment and the federal pandemic programs.
