Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office continues to help ID theft victims

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to work with the Kansas Department of Labor to help people hit by identity theft during the pandemic.

With a surge in the number of people claiming unemployment benefits, there was also a surge in people claiming benefits for others besides themselves. If your identity was used fraudulently, you may end up on a list of flagged names. This can make it harder for people to get the money they’re entitled to, so the Sheriff’s Office is helping confirm identities. This clears up KDOL records and makes sure people get their benefits.

If you have been told your identity was used to falsely apply for unemployment, and you are now trying to claim unemployment, you are eligible for this service. You will need to go to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office Records Section located inside the Adult Detention Facility at 141 W. Elm. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.

There are ID requirements in order to have your identity verified. In most cases, a drivers license and social security card should get you taken care of. Complete ID requirements are below.

If you would like to have unemployment benefits sent directly to your bank account, you will also need to know your bank’s routing number and your account number.
