Catalytic converter thefts from cars is still a major issue, with Wichita’s case rate nearly double what it was compared to this time last year.
Crime Stoppers is offering increased rewards for information that leads to the arrest people involved in stealing, or buying stolen catalytic converters. $100 is being offered for details leading to arrests in misdemeanor theft cases. $1000 is being offered for information that leads to felony arrests involving stolen catalytic converters.
Thefts remain high because of high scrap metal prices, and because of precious metals used in catalytic converters. Wichita has seen more than 500 cases so far this year, compared to 541 cases in all of 2020.
