Government to start offering home COVID tests Wednesday

With the demand for COVID tests rising, the federal government is working to get more home tests to people.

Starting Wednesday, January 19, the website you will use to order tests should be going live. The site, covidtests.gov, is up already, but nothing can be ordered at the moment.

The site indicates a household will be able to order up to four home test kits. They should start being shipped out later this week.

These tests are paid for using tax dollars, so you should not have to pay for the tests themselves or shipping. No payment information will be required to get tests.

If you are not able to get tests through this website, but can find them locally, your insurance should cover the costs of test kits. Blue Cross Blue Shield Kansas indicates members can either get tests for no additional charge through a pharmacy, or submit claims for tests purchased over the counter or online. Only certain tests are being covered, and there are some exceptions and dollar amount limitations. Find more details by using the link below.
