A 29-year-old woman was checking into her flight to China when her pet carrier fell and broke open. Out came Pepper, her beloved cat of many years. Pepper jumped on the check-in counter and then onto the roof of the kiosk area. Pepper has not been seen since.

Police attempted to search for Pepper throughout the JFK terminal, but found no trace of the cat.

A friend of the pet owner says Pepper is very lovable. “She was crying for hours. She had that cat for four years,” the friend said. “I don’t know why it ran off. I think it was in shock with everything that was going on.”

A Port Authority spokesperson said the police are still keeping an eye out for Pepper, but anyone with information about the scaredy cat’s whereabouts should get in contact.
